New Jersey Councilwoman Eunice Dwumfour was shot and killed on Wednesday night outside her home, officials said. The Sayreville resident was inside her Nissan SUV when she was shot multiple times.

The Sayreville councilwoman was 30 years old. Police said that preliminary investigation shows that she was the intended target of this shooting. However, the motive behind the shooting remains unknown and is under investigation. No arrests were made as of Thursday morning.

“The female had succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced on scene,” Middlesex County Prosecutors Office said in a statement. “This is an active and ongoing investigation anyone with information or surveillance footage of the area is asked to call Detective Rebecca Morales of the Sayreville Police Department at 732-727-4444 or Detective Michelle Coppola of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office 732-745-3477.”

Eunice Dwumfour was a business analyst and part-time EMT who was elected to the Sayreville council as a Republican in 2021.
