George Jung was an American drug smuggler and trafficker who was a major figure in 1970s and 1980s. He went by nicknames Boston George and El Americano.

Born on August 6, 1942, in Boston, he inspired the 2001 action-thriller %u2018Blow%u2019 in which Johnny Depp played the part of Jung. Jung died on Wednesday at his home in Boston after prolonged illness.

George Jung was part of Medellin Cartel, a Columbian drug cartel that was founded by Pablo Escobar, often referred to as Columbian drug lord. Jung was released from jail on June 2, 2014 after serving almost 20 years in prison. His first arrest came by an undercover police officer for solicitation of prostitution.

In 1994, Jung was arrested after he was found with 1,754 pounds of cocaine. He later received a 60-year sentence. However, he was released in 2014. Two years later, he was arrested again for parole violation in 2016.
