Jamea Jonae Harris, 23, was allegedly shot dead by Alabama basketball player Darius Miles. He has been convicted of capital murder.

Both Michael Lynn Davis, 20, of Charles county, Maryland, and forward Miles, 23, of Washington, D.C., have been arrested. According to Tuscaloosa Police Captain Jack Kennedy, the incident happened on January 15’s Sunday morning.

“At this time, it appears that the only motive was a minor altercation that these individuals had with the victim as they were out on The Strip,” Kennedy said in a news conference, according to The Guardian.

Who was Jamea Joanne Harris?

Jamea Jonae Harris’ only known description is that she was born and raised in Birmingham. Montgomery. Alabama is listed as her hometown on her Facebook profile. Her first cousin Kennedi Henderson remarked, “She was a humble soul, and she was always a happy soul. We literally grew up together.”

“She kept the cousins together and pushed us to be the best us,’’ Henderson added. “She was the best little cousin I can ask for, honestly.” She continued, “The family and I are just in disbelief that something like this has happened to her. We just ask for prayers at this time,” as per the outlet.

Harris’s son Kaine and mom DeCarla Cotton:

Jamea Jonae Harris had a 5-year-old son named Kaine. Her mother DeCarla Cotton was devastated by the death of her daughter and in a Facebook post, Cotton also wrote, “Took my baby’s life because she wouldn’t talk to him!!!!”

In another statement to AL.com, DaCarla said, “She was a beautiful young woman who loved her family and most of all her 5-year-old son Kaine. She was just trying to enjoy her weekend with her cousin that attends the University of Alabama and her boyfriend.”

Around 1.45 am local time, Jamea Jonae Harris was traveling along Grace Street and University Boulevard when gunshots were fired. She was ultimately hit by one of the shots and passed away right then. According to AL.com, the driver of Harris’ vehicle, who has not been identified, told police that they fired back in self-defense.
