Jeffrey Dahmer was an American serial killer who remained active between 1978 and 1991. He killed and dismembered around 17 men and boys during this time, also indulging in necrophilia, preservation of body parts, as well as cannibalism. The trailer of a limited series based on Dahmer’s life and crimes, titled Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, has been released by Netflix.

The dramatized series stars Evan Peters of American Horror Story fame in the titular role. Reports suggest that the series will be depicted from the perspectives of the psychopathic killer’s victims.

Who was Jeffrey Dahmer?

Born on May 21, 1960, Dahmer grew up in a troubled household under the care of his hypochondriac mother, Joyce Annette. His father, a chemist, was away from home for long periods of time due to work. The book, The Shrine of Jeffey Dahmer by Brian Masters, reveals that the young Jeffrey showed interest in dead animals and their bones, calling them his “fiddlesticks”.

Dahmer began drinking at a very early age, and by the time he was 14, the would-be serial killer was carrying a bottle of Scotch whisky to school. He later admitted that this was when he discovered that he was gay and began having fantasies about having complete control over another male individual.

The deranged serial killer’s first victim was a man named Steven Hicks. Three week after graduating, Dahmer killed Hicks in his own home and buried the latter’s remains in his backyard. He continued his killing spree after moving into his grandmother’s home in 1987.

He was arrested on July 22, 1991, after one of his would-be victims escaped and flagged down two police officers. The officials discovered pictures of dismembered male bodies in Dahmer’s house along with human body parts inside his refrigerator. Dahmer confessed to the police on all 17 murder counts and even admitted practising necrophilia on the corpses of his victims. Dahmer was himself killed by a fellow inmate at the Columbia Correctional Institution on November 28, 1994.

The Netflix series is set to divulge more details regarding Dahmer’s childhood, his murder spree and eventual conviction and sentencing.
