Hardy underwent surgery and recovered well to start the basketball season in November last year. He also underwent chemotherapy during the season. He continued to play until he was diagnosed with coronavirus.

During a speech in New Orleans, spoke about the mental approach that helped him overcome physical obstacles.

“I don’t go two or three minutes without thinking about the fact that this is my life and something that is going to stick with me forever. But I have a lot to be grateful for, and I can’t let all of that negativity consume my thoughts,” he said.

He then became the subject of an episode of ESPN’s SportsCenter Featured in March.

In the wake of his death, his family has asked those wanting to pay their respects to do so by donating to the #HardyStrong GoFundMe.
