Lauren Hewski, a New Jersey student was killed in a fatal car accident while on her way home from her college commencement. She was inside a car that crashed into a utility pole, leading to her death.

Hewski and her boyfriend were going to celebrate her graduation with her parents. When they did not reach on time, Hewski’s parents rushed to the accident spot, which had already been sealed by the authorities, according to a report by NBC New York.

Who was Lauren Hewski?

Lauren Hewski was a senior at St John Vianney High School in Holmdel, New Jersey. She was 18 years old. She was also taking credits at nearby Brookdale Community College under an advanced program. Hewski died in a car crash in Colts Neck on Thursday. She had just been awarded her associate’s degree.

The 18-year-old was in the passenger seat of a Jeep Cherokee driven by her 17-year-old boyfriend when it hit utility police and flipped on Laird Road at around 12:30 PM, according to authorities. She was pronounced dead on the spot.

The driver’s identity was not revealed due to his age. What caused the Jeep to flip off the road is under investigation.

The Monmouth County Prosecutor said the driver was injured and admitted to a local hospital.

The Brookdale College was devastated by the tragedy, said President David Scout. Hewski was one of the youngest graduates of the program that allowed students to finish an associate degree while simultaneously finishing high school. She was set to graduate from high school next month.

“Lauren was an incredibly intelligent and talented young woman who left an indelibly positive impression on all of her faculty and classmates,” Scout said.

The college observed a moment of silence on Mat 12, 2023 to honor her.

Margaret Kane, the principal of St John Vianney said Hewski was a talented student and athlete, adding that her death is a big loss for the entire community.
