A bank robbery that resulted in a SWAT standoff in Reading, Ohio, on Monday left one man dead, according to the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office.

The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office reported that Reading police in the 1200 block of Third Street asked for assistance from neighboring police agencies after locating a suspect at gunpoint robbery of a Fifth Third Bank at 1:30 p.m. Monday.

According to the sheriff’s office, the suspect, 34-year-old Michael Craddock, emerged from a house’s back door and pointed a gun at the policemen who had surrounded the house. According to the sheriff’s office, an officer from Amberley Village who was present at the scene saw Craddock and fired one round at him.

According to officials, Craddock was shot “in the upper body” before returning to the house.
Later, when SWAT personnel from Hamilton County entered the house, they discovered Craddock dead “from what appeared to be a gunshot wound,” the sheriff’s office said.

The shooting is being looked into by the prosecutor’s office and sheriff’s office of Hamilton County. The Criminal Investigation Section of the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office and the Hamilton County Prosecutor’s Office continue to investigate into the incident, which is being treated as an officer-involved shooting.
