On Saturday, two graduate students of the New York University (NYU) were killed in Puerto Rico. The victims were later identified as Franco Medina, 29, and Sergio Palomino Ruiz, 28, according to the Puerto Rico Police Department.

Who were Franco Medina Angulo, Sergio Palomino Ruiz?

Franco Medina Angulo and Sergio Palomino Ruizs were both foreign students from Peru who were both pursuing MBAs at the Stern School of Business students. According to school officials, they were traveling with a group of friends to celebrate a birthday.

The gunshots were fired early on Saturday, and Angulo and Ruiz were witnesses “caught in an altercation between two unrelated groups,” according to NYU spokesperson John Beckman.

On Saturday night, the Puerto Rico Police Department posted a video on social media that appeared to show a lady firing on the sidewalk in front of the company. The public was enlisted to help the department at the time identify the woman they were looking for in relation to the deaths of Angulo and Ruiz.

Connie Luc, a classmate, stated that Medina and Ruiz had just finished their finals and left for vacation. Now, all social events for MBA candidates have been canceled by NYU during the next few days due to their passing.

Students who were in the same program at NYU and any friends of the victims can access counseling services, the university stated. Beckman further mentioned that “The University has been in touch with the remaining group members to offer them support and aid; none of the others were injured. NYU has also reached out to the families of the slain students to provide whatever assistance we can and to express the sympathies of the University community.”

On Thursday, there will be a candlelight vigil for Angulo and Ruiz.
