English actor Will Poulter will play Adam Warlock in the next instalment of the hit franchise Guardians of the Galaxy.

James Gunn, who will be returning to direct volume 3, confirmed Poulter joining the Guardians of the Galaxy cast on Twitter.

The character of Adam Warlock was first teased in one of the many post-credit scenes of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, when Ayesha, played by Elizabeth Debicki, unveils to her chambermaid the perfect Sovereign she has created to help destroy the Guardians once and for all.

The scene marked the first and the last reference to Warlock, making fans anticipate MCU’s next move and cast the right actor for the role.

Warlock plays an important role in the Jim Starlin’s The Infinity Gauntlet comic book storyline, according to Screen Rant, from which 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War was strongly inspired. However, neither Infinity Wars nor Endgame hand any reference of Warlock.

Poulter, who will be playing Adam Warlock in James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3, is best known for roles in The Revenant and Detroit, while also contributing to television through the acclaimed Amazon miniseries The Underground Railroad.

Poulter’s upcoming project is Hulu’s limited series Dopesick.

James Gunn will mark a return to the franchise after being initially fired for controversial social media posts from a decade ago.

Gunn will work closely with Marvel Studio President Kevin Fiege, who will be wearing the producer’s hat.

The production is expected to start in November.
