World Book and Copyright Day is celebrated every year on April 23, to promote reading, copyright and publishing of books. UNESCO first celebrated it in the year 1995 and since then the date is marked in the history of literature.
World Book Day, which is organised by the United Nation Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) also marks the birth and death of many prominent authors such as William Shakespeare, Miguel de Cervantes, Vladimir Nabokov, Josep Pla and Inca Garcilaso de la Vega.

On the occasion of World Book Day, UNESCO represents the three major sectors of the book industry, which are publishers, booksellers and librarians select a World Book Capital for a year. This year the World Book Capital will be Tbilisi, the capital city of Georgia.
UNESCO on their website said, %u201COur goal is to engage people in reading, and to have fun doing so! As a celebration of this year%u2019s World%u2019s Book and Copyright Day, UNESCO has created a bookface challenge.%u201D
They further added that, %u201C the pandemic has also reminded us of all the importance of books and reading for comfort and escapism, We have all needed this past year%u2026 we invite students, teachers, readers from all around the world to participate in this challenge.%u201D
