The Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 is commonly known as the NDPS act. It prohibits any individual from engaging in the production, sale, consumption, cultivation, transport or storage of any psychometric substance or narcotic drug without permission from the appropriate authorities.

The offenses are triable by special courts and the punishment varies depending upon the degree and category of crime. A person may have to face imprisonment, pay a fine or both depending the severity of the act.
Section 27 of the NDPS lays down punishment for consuming any narcotic drug or psychotropic substance. Any person who is a consumer of narcotic drugs or psychotropic substances shall be punishable.

If the substance consumed is either of cocaine, morphine, diacetyl-morphine or any other narcotic drug or any psychotropic substance then the consumer can face imprisonment for a term which may extend to one year or a fine up to Rs 20,000 or with both.
In case the drug or substance consumed is other than the ones specified above then the consumer may face imprisonment for up to six months or a fine which may extend to Rs 10,000 or both.

The aim is to prevent, combat and regulate all operations relating to narcotic drugs and psychometric substances.
As per a report from Times Now, Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan’s 23-year-old son Aryan Khan has been arrested for the consumption of drugs under section 27 of the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. He was taken to the JJ Hospital in Mumbai for a medical evaluation.

The Narcotics Control Bureau detained the star kid after conducting a raid at a party held on a cruise ship off the Mumbai coast. Rumours suggest that Aryan will be represented by Lawyer Satish Maneshinde.
Arbaz Seth Merchant and Munmun Dhamecha were also detained after a raid at a cruise party off the Mumbai coast and taken to the NBC office for a medical examination.
