'Bill & Melinda Gates foundation’, which is also known as ‘Gates foundation’ is a philanthropic venture initiated by American tech tycoons, who on Monday announced their decision to split up after 27 years of marriage.

The foundation was started more than two decades ago in 2000 when the two were gaining fame around the world. Since then, the foundation has put in $53.8 billion since 2000 in various humanitarian issues. It has also turned into one of the biggest privately funded foundations in the world with assets worth $46.8 billion.
The Gates foundation has been on top of issues relating to sectors like health care and humanitarian aid. Additionally, the venture provides financial aid, in the form of scholarships and grants, to students with proven academic excellence and/or financial constraints.

American business tycoon and CEO of Berkshire Hathaway, Warren Edward Buffett has also been one of the three trustees of the Gates foundation.
