Evin Earl Lewis is a left-handed batsman who plays for West Indies on the international stage. He is known for his attacking batting style. The thirty-year-old was born in Rio Claro, Trinidad to Earl Lewis and Dawn Lewis. He has had an impressive T20 international career.
He has previously represented Mumbai Indians in the IPL and scored 382 runs in 13 matches for the men in blue in the 2018-19 season. He was retained by the franchise for the 2019 season as well but did not feature in many matches.
Rajasthan Royals bought Lewis in order to replace Jos Buttler for the remaining season of IPL 2021 which is underway in the United Arab Emirates.
He made his debut for West Indies in 2016 during their World T20 campaign in India. He has scored 1318 runs in 45 matches with a strike rate of 158.
He has two T20 International centuries to his name, which is an elite club. Incidentally, both of these centuries came against. He smashed a 48-ball hundred against India in his second T20 International in a close encounter that the West Indies’ won by one run. This the second-fastest century by a West Indian, only behind Chris Gayle.
He idolises Chris Gayle and hopes to mirror the playing style of the big man. Interestingly, he made his debut for the national team as Gayle’s replacement because the opener had been suffering from an injury. It’s fair to say that Evin took the opportunity with both hands.
Lewis hit his first hundred in the Bangladesh Premier League while representing the Barisal Bulls. He scored 101 runs unbeaten off just 65 balls while playing against the Dhaka Dynamites.
His 125 not out is recorded as the highest score in a T20 International chase. He smashed Indian bowlers all over the ground in his knock at the Sabrina Park.
