Bengali actress-turned- Trinamool Congress MP Nusrat Jahan welcomed her first child, a baby boy, on Thursday. According to the latest update, the mother and the newborn are doing well.
Nusrat was admitted to Neotia Hospital in Kolkata on August 25. Bengali actor Yash Dasgupta, who is reportedly dating her, drove Nusrat to the hospital.
Nusrat's due date was said to be around the end of August or early September.
Nusrat had earlier argued that since her marriage ceremony with businessman Nikhil Jain in 2019 had taken place in accordance with Turkish Marriage Regulation and hence the marriage is invalid in India.
In June, Nusrat shared a seven-point statement where she alleged that her belongings, such as family jewellery and several other assets, have been "illegally held back". She also alleged that her funds from various accounts were “mishandled" without her knowledge.
In a conversation with India Today.in, Nikhil Jain confirmed the news of his separation from Nusrat. "These are legalities, I don't really want to comment on anything she's said because the matter is sub judice in court. I have filed a civil suit in Kolkata and I will not comment on it till it is in court," he said.
Nusrat and Nikhil have been separated since November 2020.
Before her big move to politics, Nusrat has predominantly worked in Bengali cinema. Her screen debut was in Raj Chakraborty's 'Shotru'. She then appeared in the film 'Khoka 420', under the banner Eskay Movies.
Her other notable films include 'Khiladi', with Ankush Hazra, 'Sondhe Namar Agey', with Rahul Bose and 'Power', with Jeet under the banner of Shree Venkatesh Films.
She joined active politics in 2019 and contested from Basirhat as a Trinamool Congress candidate.[
