Rajesh Tope is the Health Minister of Maharashtra. The leader belongs to the Nationalist Congress Party. In the 2019 Maharashtra Assembly elections, Tope contested and won from the Ghansawangi constituency. Before that, he had served 2 terms (2009, 2014) as the MLA from Ghansawangi. He also won 2 terms from Ambad constituency in Maharashtra.
Tope has been in the news in recent times with COVID-19 cases rising rapidly across Maharashtra. On Tuesday, the state recorded 51,880 new COVID-19 cases taking the infection tally to 48,22,902. 891 fatalities on Tuesday pushed the death toll in Maharashtra to 71,742.
Rajesh Tope on Tuesday said that the government was focusing on districts with a high caseload. He added that 15 districts, including Mumbai and Thane, are showing a decline in daily COVID-19 cases, but other districts are still exhibiting an upward trend in the state.
