Rhoni Reuter was seven months pregnant with former Chicago Bear Shaun Gayle's child when she was killed by his former girlfriend Marni Yang. Gayle was Reuter's longtime boyfriend.
According to court documents, Yang entered Reuter's apartment in Deerfield, Illinois, on October 4, 2007, dressed up in face paint and a wig. She then shot Reuter seven times.
The victim was found dead in her apartment, lying facedown. She died from a gunshot wound to the back of the head. She was also shot in the abdomen, killing her unborn baby. Two bullet wounds were found in her arms, which police determined that she suffered when she attempted to protect her baby.
Police said Reuter and Gayle had been in a relationship for 17 years and she was seven months pregnant with his child.

Meanwhile, Yang and Gayle's relationship started when she was working security at a Chicago Bears convention. Their relationship turned sexual and Young became increasingly more frustrated that he was dating other women, court documents stated.
Young then began accessing his email account, and frequently read emails between Gayle and Reuter.
After Gayle informed her that he was going to be a father, Young told a friend that she was going to kill Gayle. She later changed her mind and decided to kill Reuter instead.

In a testimony given at court, Thad Reuter, Rhoni Reuter’s brother, said they spoke on the phone the night before she was killed.
“She said the baby was kicking,” he told the court.
Yang was convicted in 2011 of killing Reuter and is currently serving a double life sentence.
