Popular daily soap actor Anupam Shyam died on Monday. He was 63. Admitted to a city hospital due to a kidney infection last week, the 'Slumdog Millionaire' actor suffered a multiple organ failure.
Who was Anupam Shyam?
Best known for his work on the TV show 'Mann Kee Awaaz: Pratigya' and films like 'Slumdog Millionaire' and 'Bandit Queen', Anupam was a native of Pratapgarh in Uttar Pradesh. He was an alumnus of Bhartendu Academy of Dramatic Arts, Lucknow, where he studied from 1983 to 1985. He also supported Anna Hazare's anti-corruption movement in 2011.
Anupam Shyam experimented with different film genres throughout his career. From playing the dark, serious antagonist to acing comedy, he did it all. 'Kasoor', 'Rakta Charitra 2', 'Well done Abba', 'Market, Raaz – The Mystery Continues', 'Wanted, The Rising: Ballad of Mangal Pandey', 'Golmaal', 'Bawander', 'Paap, Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha', 'Lagaan', 'Dastak', 'Tamanna', 'Sardari Begum', 'Hazaar Chaurasi Ki Maa' and 'Dushman' were a few of his roles.
On TV he played important parts in various shows. He portrayed the role of Tauji in the television series - 'Doli Armaano Ki. Hum Ne Li Hai' and Ganjendra in the ‘Kyunki’ TV series.
Anupam Shyam was seen in a negative role in the internationally acclaimed film 'Slumdog Millionaire'. He played Guru, who kidnaps children from slums. His shot to fame came with the role of 'Thakur' in the TV show 'Mann Kee Awaaz Pratigya. His Allahabadi dialect for the show was also well received.
He was admitted to Lifeline hospital in suburban Goregaon four days ago.
His friend actor Yashpal Sharma said. Sharma said Shyam breathed his last at the hospital amid the presence of his two brothers, Anurag and Kanchan.
"The doctors informed us about his death 40 minutes ago. I was at the hospital, with his brothers Anurag and Kanchan. His body is still there in the hospital.
"It'll be brought to his residence, New Dindoshi, MHADA colony in the morning. The funeral will take place later in the day," Sharma told PTI.
He had recently resumed shooting for season two of his show "Mann Ki Awaaz: Pratigya".
Last year, Anurag had told PTI that Shyam was undergoing dialysis and was shifted to the Goregaon hospital after he collapsed during his dialysis.
The actor's family had also requested help from his friends in the entertainment industry for his treatment.
