Mar Chrysostom, India's longest-serving bishop, died at age of 103 due to age-related ailments on Wednesday, reports PTI.  

Mar Chrysostom was the former head of the Malankara Mar Thoma Syrian Church.

He was awarded Padma Bhushan by President Ram Nath Kovind in 2018.  

Mar Chrysostom was born on April 27, 1918 and had served as a bishop for 68 years. He had inherited missionary zeal from his father and did his graduation Union Christian (UC) College, Alwaye.

He was ordained in 1944 as Deacon of the Church and was consecrated as Bishop in 1953. In 1999, he became the Metropolitan of the Malankara Mar Thoma Syrian Church.
