Haiti continues to be in a state of confusion and without closure a month after the head of state, President Jovenel Moise, was assassinated at his residence in the capital. A group of attackers entered the President’s house to carry out the killing.

The son of the slain President, Joverlein Moise, who seems to be active on social media, has often remembered his father while posting his pictures along with him.

“What they told us is not the truth. But we are waiting”, he wrote in a social media post, according to reports from Reuters.

Law enforcement authorities of the Caribbean nation claim that the killers of the President were foreign mercenaries and have also hinted at the involvement of officials from the security team of the 53-year-old President.

Officials from Haiti’s Ministry of Justice, along with the police, alleged that the group of Colombian killers, who were more than 20 in number, breached the residence of the President on July 7 after midnight.

At least two senior members of the President’s security team have been detained by the authorities on suspicion of being involved in the incident. According to reports from Reuters, the group of assassins faced minimal resistance while breaking into Moise’s residence last month.

Christian Emmanuel Sanon, a doctor based out of United States’ Florida who is 63 years old, was arrested by Haiti’s law enforcement officials for allegedly plotting the assassination. Haitian officials have been closely working with representatives from United States’ Federal Bureau of Investigations.

Martine Moise, the wife of the slain President and former first lady of Haiti, urged the people of the country to choose a peaceful path for justice and not plunge into violence.

“We do not want vengeance nor violence. Let us shout justice”, she said in a statement, according to reports from Reuters.
