Akasa Air is a low-cost Indian airline based in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. It was founded by Rakesh Jhunjhunwala, an Indian billionaire known as the “Big Bull of India.”
After receiving its first Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, the airline began commercial operations on August 7, 2022, with its first flight service from Mumbai to Ahmedabad.
Rakesh Jhunjhunwala invested $35 million for a 40% stake in the carrier in July 2021. In October 2021, it received a No Objection Certificate from the Ministry of Civil Aviation. The airline’s tagline is “It’s Your Sky.”
The airline will operate 28 weekly flights between Bengaluru and Kochi beginning on August 13, 2022. Flights to Chennai will begin from Mumbai on September 15. The airline will begin operations with two Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft, while it has also ordered for 17 of these aircraft and is waiting to receive them. The company has also ordered for 53 of the Boeing 737 Max 200 aircraft.
These two carriers can carry 187 and 199 passengers, respectively, on them.
