Gaganyaan is India’s first manned space flight. A trial of the flight will take place late next year or in the beginning of 2024. Initially planned for an earlier test-run, Gaganyaan’s first trial was delayed on account of the coronavirus pandemic as Indian astronauts could not train in Russia.
Four Indian Air Force pilots have been identified for the Gaganyaan launch. After two orbital test flights are assessed, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) will send two astronauts into a low earth orbit.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during is 2018 Independence Day address, said the Gaganyaan mission will come at a cost of Rs 10,000 crore. The Gaganyaan has been designed to carry three people. A planned upgraded version will be equipped with rendezvous and docking capabilities.
