James Cameron’s first ‘Avatar‘ movie was a box-office success, and wasn’t dethroned until ‘Avengers: Endgame’ came along.
‘Avatar’ tells the story of a former Marine who tries to help humanity after earth’s natural resources have been depleted. Pandora is a planet with materials humans need, but to go there, they must operate through their avatars, which scientists have created.
Jake Sully is the protagonist who starts off on the side of the humans but then falls in love with a member of the alien race on that planet and eventually helps them survive. The science-fiction epic gained critical acclaim as well for use of its CGI.
‘Avatar: Way of the Water‘ is the follow-up and is highly anticipated. It shows Sully with his love and the rest of their tribe trying to find a new home. However, adventures – often deadly – await.
The protagonist also has a family now and must decide to act to keep them together, making this all the more complex for the former Marine.
‘Avatar: Way of the Water’ suffered several delays, but is now poised to release on December 16, 2022. A third film is also in the pipeline and is slated to come out on December 20, 2024.
Two other follow-ups are planned for 2026 and 2028 releases, and will expand the world introduced to viewers in ‘the 2009 movie.
