Answer: God Padmanabhaswamy

God Padmanabhaswamy or Vishnu is a deity enshrined in the Ananta Shayana posture, the yogic sleep posture on the infinite serpent Adi Sesha. He is the guardian deity of the royal family of Travancore.

The serpent has five hoods facing inwards, which signifies contemplation. The Lord’s right hand is placed over a Shivalingam. Lakshmi, the Goddess of prosperity and Bhudevi the Goddess of Earth, the two consorts of Vishnu are by his side.

The Shree Padmanabhaswamy Temple is a Hindu temple located in Thiruvananthapuram, the city whose name translates to ‘The City Of Lord Ananta, or Vishnu’.

In the Garbhagriha, Padmanabha reclines on the serpent Anantha or Adi Sesha.

It is believed that Parasurama had purified and venerated the idol of Sree Padmanabhaswamy in Dvapara Yuga and had entrusted ‘Kshethra karyam’ (Administration of the Temple) with seven Potti families.

The titular Maharaja of Travancore, Moolam Thirunal Rama Varma, is the current trustee of the temple.

The Padmanabhaswamy Temple and its property were managed by the Ettara Yogam (King and Council of Eight) along with the assistance of Ettuveetil Pillamar (“Lords of the Eight Houses”).

In 2011, the Kerala High Court ruled that the state government should take over the control of the temple and its assets, however, the Travancore royal family appealed to the Supreme Court. An independent report was commissioned and was completed in November 2012, finding no evidence that the royal family was ousting the treasures.
