Courtois advanced through Genk’s development programme, and at the age of 18, he was a crucial component in the team’s triumph in the Belgian Pro League. He reportedly paid £8 million to join Chelsea in July 2011 and was loaned out to Atlético Madrid right away. He won the Copa del Rey in 2013, the Europa League in 2012, and the La Liga championship in 2014 during his three seasons there.
In recognition of his efforts during his final two seasons, he also received the Ricardo Zamora Trophy as La Liga’s top goalkeeper. In his first season after his July 2014 return, Courtois helped Chelsea win the League Cup and the Premier League championship.
