Amazon Quiz (September 15): In a recent ODI at Townsville, which team beat Australia for the first time in 8 years?
Ireland
Scotland
Zimbabwe
Bangladesh
Answer: Zimbabwe
Zimbabwe shocked Australia in the third One-Day International in Townsville, winning by three wickets and preventing the home team from sweeping the series. Ryan Burl took up five for 10 in just three overs.
To the audience’s fleeting pleasure, Australia was put into bat. However, after 31 overs, they were all out for 141 runs, with David Warner making the sole meaningful contribution with a counterattacking 94 from 96 balls.
The Australian bowlers made a valiant effort to hold off the low score, but visiting captain Regis Chakabva (37 off 72 balls) made sure his team secured an improbable victory, only its third ODI victory over the hosts, by reaching 142 for seven in 39 overs.
The difficult morning weather did not seem to be improving Aaron Finch’s miserable run of form. Before being caught at second slip off the bowling of seamer Richard Ngarava, who dismissed the Australia captain in each of the three games, he added five runs.
On the two-paced surface, wickets fell, and when left-arm spinner Sean Williams had Cameron Green caught for three, Australia had fallen to 72 for five.
Warner maintained his composure as wickets fell all around him, including two in Burl’s first over when the all-rounder dismissed Ashton Agar for a duck and Glenn Maxwell for 19.
However, the daring opening failed to reach three figures, slogging Burl into Brad Evans’ hands.
