Answer- Uttar Pradesh

The Saryu Canal National Project was officially launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the state of Uttar Pradesh. In December 2021, the 6,623-kilometer irrigation project went into operation.

The irrigation project uses a network of canals to irrigate 1.4 lakh hectares of land in 6,200 communities. It connects five rivers: the Ghagra, Saryu, Rapti, Banganga, and Rohin.

The project was initially conceived in the 1970s, but it was repeatedly delayed due to a variety of problems, including problems with land acquisition and inappropriate money disbursement.

At a final construction cost of approximately Rs 10,000 crore, it was completed.

At a cost of Rs 78.68 crore, the state government began this project on a modest scale in 1978 for irrigation in two districts. The number of districts was increased to nine four years later, in 1982. The Saryu Canal National Project was given a new name, and the price was raised to a staggering Rs 9,802 crore by 2021.

4.04 lakh hectares would be irrigated as part of this project, according to officials.

About 100 irrigation projects have been targeted in the nation in order to quadruple farmers’ incomes by 2022. 17 of the 18 projects that were chosen as part of this programme have been finished. 22 lakh hectares of land would get irrigation after these 17 irrigation projects are finished.
