Following her recent victory in the W60 ITF event in Saguenay, Canada, Karman Kaur Thandi has replaced longtime resident Ankita Raina as India’s top women’s singles tennis player.

Karman Kaur Thandi, 24, rose a stunning 91 ranks in the most recent WTA tennis rankings thanks to the victory, the largest singles championship of her career thus far.

On the ITF Circuit, Thandi has recently won doubles championships and one singles championship. The singles championship was won at a $25k Hong Kong tournament on June 23, 2018, and the doubles championships were won in Heraklion in 2017 and Gulbarga in 2015, respectively. She reached a career-high ranking of 32 on the ITF Junior Circuit in January 2016.  She additionally advanced to the semifinals in two more competitions held in China.

She is a member of the RoundGlass Tennis Academy (RGTA), where she has received instruction from Aditya Sachdeva, the Technical Director and one of the best instructors in the nation. She also briefly worked at the Mouratoglou Academy in Nice, where she frequently practised with Frenchwoman Alize Cornet. This experience helped her evaluate her game in comparison to a top-20 leader.

Kaur is one of the youngest tennis players to achieve the accomplishment, joining the likes of Nirupama Sanjeev, Sania Mirza, Shikha Uberoi, Sunitha Rao, and Ankita Raina, as the sixth female Indian tennis player to be ranked among the WTA rankings’ top 200.
