Liz Truss was the shortest-reigning Prime Minister in the history of the United Kingdom. She had defeated Rishi Sunak to become the Leader of the Conservative Party and consequently the Prime Minister of UK. She succeeded Boris Johnson in the role. However, certain economic decision by Truss plunged the UK economy into further woes, as a result of which she resigned from her office.
The most significant event that happened in the UK under Truss’ short tenure was the death of Queen Elizabeth II. Truss had gone to visit her in Balmoral, Scotland, where the queen later died.
Truss is all set to be replaced by Rishi Sunak as the UK PM. Sunak is set to be the first UK Prime Minister of colour. He rose to the position of Leader of the Conservative Party after Penny Mordaunt, another British MP, failed to secure the required number of nominations (100) to contest the election from her fellow MPs.
Truss, who is an MP from South West Norfolk, has congratulated Sunak on his appointment as the new PM. She has also pledged her full support to the latter. In a statement she posted on Twitter, Truss said, “Congratulations @RishiSunak on being appointed as Leader of the Conservative Party and our next Prime Minister. You have my full support.”
