Cruella De Vil is an american crime comedy film based on the character Cruella de Vil from Dodie Smith’s 1956 novel The Hundred and One Dalmatians. Directed by Craig Gillespie, it is the third live-action adaptation in the 101 Dalmatians franchise.
Emma Stone opened up about being excited to do the role and said, “I thought that this was a really exciting and interesting reimagining of a character that we feel like we know on a surface level. It was fun to go deeper into what makes her tick and what makes her so evil.” Cruella’s fashion designer nemesis Baroness was played by Thompson. Thompson talked about her favourite Cruella’s dress and said, “The thing that I loved about it was that it was real. This skirt was actually attached to her, it wasn’t CGI’ed, they drove off fast and they did that amazing fishtail thing for real on camera. I was there to see it, and it was epic.”
The movie garnered a lot of attention when it was released towards the end of May 2021. The movie does not show Cruella’s iconic character holding the cigarette. “That is not allowed in 2021,” Stone told People. “We are not allowed to smoke on screen in a Disney film.” “I was so excited to have that green plume of smoke in there…I don’t want to promote smoking, but I’m also not trying to promote skinning puppies,” she continued.
