The first woman to own the Miss Universe Organization in its 71-year history is Thai transgender business magnate Anne Jakkaphong Jakrajutatip. The deal, which cost an estimated US$20 million, was announced by Jakrajutatip’s organization on October 26. It represents an incredible accomplishment for the multimillionaire.
Jakrajutatip stated during an interview for the Bangkok Post that she attended an all-male school in Thailand before her transition and experienced bullying from her peers and even sexual harassment from her instructor due to her gender identity. As a result, she chose to drop out and later began working at a gas station to help support herself. She eventually relocated to Sydney, Australia to further her studies.
Donald Trump relinquished his share in the company in 2015 when two television networks threatened to stop airing the competition as a result of his divisive remarks about immigration during his 2016 campaign. It goes without saying that Jakrajutatip’s takeover ushers in a new, prosperous era for Miss Universe. The tournament will now be open to married women and moms, who had previously been disqualified, in addition to the announcement of the new proprietor.
