The India and South Africa test series had gone on to a fifth and final showdown in Bengaluru, before the match was abandoned due to rain, after only 3.3 overs were played. This left the test level at 2-2.
Temba Bavuma, the Proteas skipper, had won the toss electing to bowl first. However, a steady downpour caused a 50-minute delay, with the rains coming down just as the game was about to start.
Once it began, there was only 16 minutes of playtime, during which India scored 28 runs and lost 2 wickets.
The final took place in Bangalore’s M Chinaswammy Stadium, but at the start of the series, India was down 2-0 until they reached Visakhapatnam. There, Rishabh Pant and company bounced back and grabbed two wins, forcing the test series to a riveting fifth game.
After the Indian team got back into the series with their wins, skipper Pant noted “There are a lot of positives. The way the team showed character from 0-2 down was a huge positive. We are in a nice spot as we are finding different ways to win the game. I can only think about giving my 100% as a player and captain. It is for you guys to decide on how I am doing as a player and captain, I can only focus on giving my 100%”.
