Sandra Bullock is a Hollywood veteran who’s won an Academy Award and Golden Globe apart from many other accolades. She plays Loretta Sage, a reclusive author in ‘The Lost City’.
Bullock’s character writes about adventures in many exotic places, and her novels include a handsome cover model called Alan. The role is played by Channing Tatum, who’s known to pack a comic punch when needed.
The two are out promoting Sage’s book, when the author is kidnapped by an eccentric billionaire, in the hopes she will lead him to a lost treasure of an ancient city. Alan decides to come to her rescue.
Interestingly, when Bullock was first offered the role, she’d turned it down, but later went to Paramount wanting a reversal of the character tropes. Her author would be bolder, while Alan’s character would be more effeminate. Tatum reportedly had no issues, and the movie was on track.
“There weren’t any obstacles for the female character. And the male character we’ve seen before”, Bullock told The Hollywood Reporter. She added, “I like that I’m not 25”, continuing “And I love that there’s a man in it willing to be many aspects of himself that weren’t traditionally shown in films like this because they had to be the action hero. And Chan was so game. Let’s just do it.”
