Amazon Quiz: The Minsk Protocol is an agreement which sought to end war in which country?

Syria

Belarus

Ukraine

Vietnam

Answer: Ukraine

The Minsk Protocol sought to end the war in the Donbas region of Ukraine and was cited by China as a possible way to end the current conflict after Russia sent troops into Ukraine on February 24.

It was signed after the actions in Crimea in 2014 and aimed at ensuring a ceasefire. The agreement came into focus after President Vladimir Putin decided to send troops vowing to “denazify” the neighbouring country.

Currently, the war is ongoing in Ukraine with Russia having captured much of the south and kept a push going in the east. Ukraine meanwhile, is prepared to recapture the south and claims to have raised a million-strong army

Russia’s war in Ukraine has drawn global backlash, with many countries imposing sanctions and also removing Russia from the favoured trade status. President Volodymyr Zelensky has constantly rallied support and asked for weapons to aid in the war.

While the initial nature of help was meant for Ukraine to defend itself, over time, the aid altered to help the nation beat Russian advances. Despite the current situation, with lives lost, and many displaced, one pressing concern for Ukraine is how to get its grains out. With Russia blocking the Black Sea ports, Ukraine cannot export its wheat, raising fears of a global food crisis, and spelling trouble for the nation’s farmers, especially with harvest season knocking on the door.
