King Charles III is taking over after Queen Elizabeth II, his mother, died at 96, after 70 years of being the monarch of England. Charles has chosen his name despite many believing he would go for an alternative seeing as the previous two Charles – I and II did not have very good luck as monarchs. 

Charles I was beheaded for treason while Charles II was known for his dalliances will several women. The new monarch has had his share of adultery, as his marriage with his previous wife, Princess Diana of Wales fell apart when reports of his affair with Camilla became undeniable. However, after Diana’s death, Charles married Camilla and she’s now Queen Consort. 

Charles III has had other troubles like his charitable foundation accepting money from Osama bin Laden’s family, but with a new ruler there are expectations that Charles might take the monarchy in a greener direction, given his concerns with the environment. Towards the end of her life, the Queen handed over more and more public duties to Charles, essentially preparing him for his current role.
