Answer: USA

The bald eagle is the national bird of the United States of America.

It earned the title in 1782, when it was placed on the country’s Great Seal with its outspread wings. Since then, it has been featured in several government institutions and documents, which has made it the most pictured bird in the country. It is also featured on the US military insignia, president’s flag, one-dollar notes and the mace of the House of Representatives.

The bald eagle made its first appearance as a symbol in 1776, on a copper coin in Massachusetts.

In 1789, the bird was selected as a national symbol after six years of disputes by members of Congress, who argued about what the national emblem should look like.

One of the detractors of the bird’s national status was Benjamin Franklin, who wrote in a letter, “I wish the bald eagle had not been chosen as the representative of our country; he is a bird of bad moral character; like those among men who live by sharping and robbing, he is generally poor, and often very lousy.”

Offering an alternative, the polymath wrote, “The turkey is a much more respectable bird and withal a true, original native of America.”
