Marilyn Monroe is one of the most well-known stage names in the world. Writer J.I. Baker shared some interesting facts about the late actor with Glamour in 2012.
At the beginning of her career, a studio executive persuaded the actor to change her real name, Norma Jeane Baker (born Mortenson).
In the late 1940s, Marilyn Monroe and actor Shelley Winters shared an apartment. In her memoirs, Winters said that Monroe had made suggestions about having an affair with Albert Einstein.
According to her, Monroe was Truman Capote’s first choice to portray the lead in the renowned film based on his best-selling book. According to The Guardian, Capote, who was close friends with Monroe during her time in the spotlight, is believed to have based some aspects of the protagonist Golightly’s personality on the actor. That iconic role later went to Audrey Hepburn.
On May 19, 1962, when Monroe entered Madison Square Garden to perform “Happy Birthday” to the president, the audience gasped when she threw her fur stole off, mistaking her for a nudist. “I don’t think I had ever seen anyone so beautiful as Marilyn Monroe that night. She was wearing skin and beads. I didn’t see the beads!” Adlai Stevenson later said.
By donning a dark wig and sunglasses, Monroe created the alter ego Zelda Zonk in order to avoid being recognised in public. Through Zonk, she “became a normal” person.
According to InStyle, Monroe’s makeup artist utilised a variety of colours to create her smouldering red tone, but Max Factor’s Ruby Red stood out the most. Max Factor’s brilliant red colour is still available in Europe (and on Amazon! ), despite being discontinued in the US.
