The Maasai Mara National Park or the Maasai Mara National Reserve is located in Narok, Kenya. It is a contiguous forest that Kenya and Tanzania share and the Maasai Mara National Park turns into the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania.
Maasai Mara’s claim to fame is that it hosts the Great Migration. Every year, around the same time, wildebeest migration takes place beginning from the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and looping clockwise to the Serengeti National Park and then northwards towards Maasai Mara.
Maasai Mara National Reserve hosts animals such as lions, the African leopard, cheetah and the African bush elephant.
The wildebeest, topi, zebra and Thomson’s gazelle are animals that migrate to and stay at the Maasai Maara reserve. The “Big Five’ — lion, leopard, elephant, Cape buffalo and white rhinos are found in Maasai Mara all the year round. Hippopotamuses and crocodiles are also found in large numbers.
The Maasai Mara National Reserve is also a major research centre for the spotted hyena.
