Amazon Quiz: This is the flag of which country?
While all flags arouse feelings of patriotism in their countrypeople, the Indonesian flag has always been a mark of defiance. It was banned by the Dutch colonizers in 1922 and flown in 1928 by nationalists.
The original Indonesian flag is known as Bendera Pusaka (heirloom flag) and is said to have been sewn by Fatmawati Soekarno, the wife of the then-president.
There are two colours on the flag, red and white. The red represents courage and sacrifice, while the represents purity and peace. They are said to symbolize the physical aspect of a human being, and their soul, which is why the colours together make a complete person.
