Tobi Amusan is a track and field athlete, who was born on April 23, 1997 in a small town in Nigeria called Ijebu Ode. She recently became the first-ever Nigerian athlete to clinch a gold medal at the World Athletics Championships, where she set a new world record of 12.06 seconds in 100m hurdles.

It was also the second time she broke the existing world record in the same night as she bettered her own record from the semifinals of 12.12 seconds in the 100m hurdles. The 25-year-old was also the 2018 Commonwealth Games champion in 100m hurdles and is the defending champion at the event in Birmingham 2022

The Nigerian athlete won consecutive gold medals in athletics at the African Championships in the 2018 and 2022 editions. Apart from that, she has also been crowned the champion in the African Games twice.

Tobi Amusan is also the first Nigerian athlete to win a Diamond League trophy in 100m hurdles, which she claimed in 2021 in Zurich, Switzerland. By doing so, she also shattered the African record in the discipline, set by Glory Alozie.

Tobi is the youngest of three siblings and completed schooling from Our Lady of Apostles Secondary School in her hometown of Ijebu Ode in Ogun State of Nigeria. Apart from competing in the 100m hurdles, she also participates in the 4*100m relay race and has won medals in the category in the 2018 Commonwealth Games and 2018 and 2022 African Championships. She also used to participate in 200m sprints and won a silver medal in the category in the 2013 African Youth Athletics Championships.
