Amazon Quiz: What is the preferred food of this bear?

Seals

Reindeer

Penguin

Arctic Hare

Answer: Seals

The most carnivorous species in bears are polar bears, who mainly consume ringed, bearded, harp, harbor and hooded seals, due to their large body size. As their bodies metabolize fat better than protein, seals are the ideal diet for them. They also hunt and feed on other larger prey such as beluga, narwhal and walrus, and scavenge on marine mammal corpses.

They also eat kelp, birds, and fish, although such small foods barely satiate their hunger.

During the summer months, polar bears use up their fat reserves and remain inactive to conserve their bodily energy.

Polar bears are the biggest bears in the world and the most violent predator in the Arctic. Their name, is derived from the Latin term ‘Ursus maritimus’, which means ‘sea bear’. They spend most of their life on sea ice. In the US, the state of Alaska is the habitat of two polar bear subpopulations.

The animals are great swimmers and can paddle with their paws at a speed of six miles per hour. Their thick skin layer and water-repellent body helps them stay warm in icy cold water and freezing temperatures.
