Aishwariya Rai Bacchan is an Indian actress born on November 1, 1973. Known for mostly Hindi and Tamil films, she is considered one of the most influential celebrities on the globe.
In the 1994 Miss India pageant, she secured second place, just behind Sushmita Sen. Rai competed for the Miss World title, winning the crown.
Rai made her acting debut in the 1997 Tamil film Iruvar, a critical and commercial success. Following her debut in Bollywood, Rai became one of the highest-paid actresses in India.
She achieved success in Bollywood and won numerous accolades for her performances in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s romantic dramas Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999) and Devdas (2002). Devdas was chosen as India’s official entry for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.
She has also starred in some of India’s most popular films, including Jodhaa Akbar, Chokher Bali, Mohabbatein, Enthiran, Guru, and the recently released Ponniyin Selvan:1.
Aishwariya Rai has dated actors Salman Khan and Vivek Oberoi. She married actor Abhishek Bacchan in 2007. Rai gave birth to her daughter, Aradhya in 2011.
She is a Goodwill Ambassador for the Joint United Nations Programme on AIDA. In 2003, she became the first Indian actress to be a jury member at the Cannes Film Festival.
