App for food delivery Zomato apologised for their most recent commercial with Hrithik Roshan and said they didn’t mean to offend anyone. The company apologised and stated that it had the utmost respect for Ujjain residents’ feelings. It was also made clear that the advertisement was no longer running.
“We offer our sincerest apologies, for the intent here was never to hurt anyone’s beliefs and sentiments,” the company said in a Twitter post.
The statement further said,” The video is part of a pan-India campaign for which we identified top local restaurants and their top dishes based on popularity in each city. Mahakal restaurant was one of the restaurants chosen for the campaign in Ujjain. We deeply respect the sentiments of the people of Ujjain and the ad in question is no longer running. We offer our sincerest apologies for the intent here was never to hurt anyone’s beliefs and sentiments.”
The company released a statement in response to demands from priests and followers of Shree Mahakaleshwar Temple, a well-known temple in Ujjain, for the advertising featuring Hrithik ordering meals from “Mahakal” when he felt like a having a “thali” to be immediately pulled.
The advertisement mentioned ‘thalis’ at ‘Mahakal Restaurant,’ not the holy ‘Shree Mahakaleshwar Temple,’ the company said in a statement.
