Siya tells the story of a young underprivileged girl who has been raped and decides to get justice, only to realize the futility of the system. The film comes from producer turned director Manish Mundra, and seems to be set in rural Bihar where muscle power and the power of the gun prevail.
While there is a gamut of social injustices shown in the movie, Siya has been said to lack the hope that separates films from documentaries. The victim is constantly frustrated in her search for justice and even asks at one point what good can justice do if there’s nobody left to get justice for.
Vineet Kumar does a laudable job as the victim’s lawyer-friend, Mahendra. He tries to help the girl get justice but doesn’t manage to make a dent in the system.
Mundra told Outlook about his upcoming project, saying “It is really endearing to receive so much love from the audiences. I’m really looking forward to their response once our film releases theatrically and I’m glad to have been blessed with such warm words, support and best wishes for this project. The promotions have been great and we are really hoping for more love to pour in. This movie is extremely close to my heart and the actors have translated my vision exactly how I wished to portray it. The movie will instantly strike a chord with your heart and the support we have received has only made us more confident of our movie.”
