Answer- Concave

There are two types of curved mirrors we see around us, namely, concave mirrors and convex mirrors. While a concave mirror’s reflecting surface is inwards, a convex mirror’s reflecting surface faces outwards. Curved mirrors have a number of uses in our daily lives. From cars headlights and hallway safety mirrors to telescopes, spotlights and torches, curved mirrors can be found everywhere. These mirrors can magnify or minimize the image created on them according to requirements. They are often used together in complex instruments as well.

Focusing light is the primary reason for using a concave mirror. Such mirrors can be found in headlamps, spotlights, torches, and other light-focusing instruments. Concave mirrors are also used during laser construction in order to form optical cavities. The use of concave mirrors can also be found in the landing systems of modern aircraft carriers.

In dental surgery, concave mirrors are often used in order to magnify the view for the surgeon. This helps in operating on parts of the teeth that require medical attention and reduces the chances of affecting other parts. The image that forms on a concave mirror is also not an inverted one, unlike the one that is produced on a convex mirror. Notably, the concave mirror also refracts some light, which allows the dentist to get a brighter and bigger view of the teeth. The dentist has to hold the concave mirror in a manner such that the part of the tooth that requires attention becomes the mirror’s focal point.
