George VI reigned over the United Kingdom and the British Commonwealth Dominions from December 11, 1936 to until his death in 1952. He was the last Emperor of India until the British Raj was abolished in August 1947.
He was married to Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, the last Empress of India and Queen of the United Kingdom and the Dominions of the British Commonwealth. He had two daughters, one of which Queen Elizabeth II is the current Queen of the United Kingdom and the 14 other Commonwealth realms of the United Kingdom and 14 other Commonwealth realms. Princess Margaret, his other child, died in February 2002.
George V died on January 20, 1936, and Edward succeeded to the throne as King Edward VIII. On May 12, 1937, George VI was crowned at Westminster Abbey.
