Sarla Thukral

Answer: Sarla Thukral

Sarla Thukral, who was born in 1914, was one of the first Indian women to fly an aeroplane when she obtained her pilot’s licence in 1936 at the age of 21. She persisted after receiving her initial licence and eventually flew 1,000 hours in Lahore Flying Club-owned aircraft. She was inspired by her husband, P. D. Sharma, who she married when she was 16 and who hailed from a family of nine pilots.

Here are some fun facts about pilots:

– Pilots spend long stretches of time away from home. They frequently carry pictures of their family or spouses in the lining of their hats as a way to keep their loved ones close at hand.

– Pilots are prohibited from eating shellfish while on duty to prevent food poisoning. Food sharing is prohibited for pilots. Pilots order and consume various crew meals while in flight as a safety measure.

– The captain has the authority to make arrests, levy fines, and even take a passenger’s last will and testament.

– The pilots are not recommended to listen to music while flying. They maintain a constant connection with ground controllers who coordinate aircraft movement.

– Pilots may flash the landing lights or the wing inspection lights to say hello to other planes as they cross paths in the sky, just like bus drivers do.
