The Asia Cup 2022 saw two thrilling encounters between India and Pakistan. While India won the first match, Pakistan took their revenge in the follow-up encounter. Pakistan have now defeated India on two separate occasions in World Cup history (both 50-over and T20I).
Hardik Pandya was back in action as a bowler after coming back from an injury. He bowled four overs in the match and managed to take three wickets while giving away 25 runs. Pandya’s performance with the ball was crucial to India’s victory since the Rohit Sharma-led side had fielded inexperienced bowlers like Arshdeep Singh and Avesh Khan in the match.
Pandya’s performance with the bat was also commendable. His crucial 17-ball 33 snatched the win for India. Just like MS Dhoni in the 2011 World Cup final, Pandya also registered the win for India with a last-ball six.
The match was a close affair between two evenly matched sides. Pakistan scored 147 in 19.5 overs on the back of a 42-ball 43 by their wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan. In response, India lost early wickets in the form of openers Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul (who got out for a duck). Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja’s crucial 35 runs each helped keep India within victory’s sight. It was then upon Pandya to guide his team to the promised land.
