Bundesliga
club Borussia Dortmund on Sunday said that they have sacked their head coach
Lucien Favre after suffering their heaviest home defeat since 2009, AFP reported. Swiss
Favre is going to be replaced with his assistant Edin Tezric as Dortmund crashed

“It
is very difficult for us to take this step, but we believe that the current
negative development has put our season goals in danger, and we have to take
action,” AFP quoted Dortmund’s Sporting Director Michael Zorc as saying.

Dortmund’s
defeat on Saturday came as the squad’s hardest home defeat at home since being
humbled by Bayern Munich at 2009, where the team also lost by a margin of 5-1.

Since
taking over Dortmund in 2018, there have been criticisms against Favre not
being able to mount any serious title challenges, even though he took the club
to the second position twice.

Tezric, who
the club informed to be taking over “until the end of the season,”
previously worked at Dortmund’s youth system and was part of Croatian coach
Slaven Bilic’s staff at Besiktas and West Ham United.
