An attack on a preschool in the southern Brazilian state on Wednesday has killed at least 8, including 4 children. According to the local police and hospital, the incident occurred in Santa Catarina.

According to the authorities, the suspect responsible for the attack is a 25-year-old man. He has been arrested. No other details were provided for the same. The injured children are between zero to two years old. They are under medical care in Hospital Santo Antonio in the city of Blumenau.

In a Twitter post, President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva called the attack a “monstrosity”. He dubbed it an “unacceptable, absurd act of hate and cowardice” against “innocent, defenseless children.”
