“I’m finally Korean!” said white British influencer Oli London after undergoing 18 plastic surgeries to look like BTS singer Park Ji-min, or Jimin.

Oli London, who came out as non-binary and uses the pronouns they and them, released a YouTube video, explaining why they underwent plastic surgeries. The influencer said they had been “very unhappy with who I am deep down for the last eight years”.

While showing the results of their surgery, they said, “I know a lot of people don’t understand me, but I do identify as Korean and I do look Korean now, I do feel Korean…”

“That’s just my culture. That’s my home country. That’s exactly how I look now. And I also identify as Jimin, that’s my career name,” they said in the video.

London went on to say that after struggling with identity issues they wanted to finally speak out during Pride month. They added had lived in South Korea, can speak Korean and now “have the Korean look now, I look completely Korean”.

“If you didn’t know who I was, you would just think I was a Korean person, not a man or a woman, just a person. And, you know, people might think, ‘oh, I’m such a joke’. But you know what, guys? You don’t understand. If you’re trapped in the wrong body your whole life, you don’t understand,” London said in the video.

After London’s photos went viral, some people accused them of cultural appropriation. Following this, London told Sky News that they wanted others to respect their decision.

“I’m not about negativity or sparking controversy. At the end of the day I’m a human being living in my truth. It’s an unfortunate reality for so many to have to hide who they truly are,” they told the outlet.
